Project

In brief...

Promoting cross-border entrepreneurship in universities and beyond

The Entrepreneurship beyond borders project aims both to promote a culture for cross-border entrepreneurship in universities and create an interdisciplinary, intercultural and cross-border network of entrepreneurs. The project is situated within the Franco-German-Swiss geographical area of the Upper Rhine.

The project partners will work together to:

  • Capitalise on existing international good practices and exemplary projects
  • Develop synergies between cross-border ecosystems supporting the creation, the take-over and the development of companies
  • Create a network of cross-border co-working spaces able to receive entrepreneurs who wish to work, share, learn and create together
  • Attract and support young international talents in the creation of start-ups and project incubation
  • Create cross-border training diplomas
  • Bring awareness to the international dimension of entrepreneurship through competitive intelligence and dissemination

Launched in October 2015 and for a duration of 36 months, Entrepreneurship beyond borders is one of 18 projects co-funded by the Programme of Investments for the Future (PIA) on «Innovation and entrepreneurial culture » managed by the Caisse des Dépôts group for the French State. International workshop concerning entrepreneurship, University of Strasbourg

29.09.2016-30.09.2016

The Entrepreneurship beyond borders project organised in Strasbourg at the INET on the 29th and 30th September 2016 an international workshop “Developing a really international enterprising mind in and around universities”.

The objectives of the meeting were to:

  • Generate knowledge transfer thanks to the contributions of entrepreneurship experts;
  • Capitalise through existing international good practices;
  • Identify synergies for the development of cross-border and international entrepreneurship in and around universities.

The following organisations from 5 European countries answered the University of Strasbourg’s invitation: Agence pour l’Entreprise et l’Innovation Wallonie (BE), Unione degli Industriali della Provincia di Varese (IT), WHU – Otto Beisheim Business School of Management (DE), ADEC (FR), Alsace Tech (FR), CCI France-Suisse, Eucor – Le Campus européen (FR/DE), the PEEL (FR), Start Hop (FR/DE), SEMIA (FR) and the Université de Haute-Alsace (FR).

The workshop participants exchanged on the different methods used to promote entrepreneurship in universities, the success factors and barriers towards the development of international entrepreneurship and the role universities should play in the entrepreneurship ecosystem. The project also led a reflection on which criteria should be used to evaluate public policy supporting entrepreneurship.

During the discussions, three key points were identified: the importance of creating a strong ecosystem supporting business creation; the promotion of international experiences (internships, study visits, meetings etc.); concentrating on entrepreneurship in practice rather than in theory.

Finally, all the participants agreed on the importance of developing a shared culture in order to fully benefit from accepted international and national assets.
